My Story

I don’t remember the first time I picked up a lacrosse stick. I just always had one. So did all the other kids in my neighborhood for that matter. We played lacrosse. It’s what we did. We had an old tennis ball, two old hockey nets full of holes, and our big back yard. Some times it was two on two, some days it was four on four, and other days there would only be two of us…We took turns, five long shots, five ‘comer-inners’. We played for hours. I loved to play. I still do.

It was not just lacrosse though, it was all sports. My buddies and I played touch football at Meadowwood Park for hours at a time. We played road hockey at my grandparents’ house until it was too dark to see. But one day when we were playing, it was getting dark, we were almost finished, and my grandfather hit the switch. That’s right - he had put up lights for us! I remember how my friends and I felt that very moment. It was one of the best feelings I can ever remember.

We played ice hockey on our homemade rink. Huge snow banks, lights, everything you could want. We played for hours. We had a trampoline, and the kids in the neighborhood needed a note from their parents giving them permission to jump. It was a blast. I played basketball, I golfed, I ran cross-country, I swam, I water skied. We rode bikes, we played tennis, and we kicked a soccer ball at recess. I have always loved sports.

There is a reason why I had all these opportunities: It was the people. People like my Mom and Dad, for example. They supported all of us, six kids - and all of our friends. They made time for each of us. I don’t know how they did it. But they did. They would drive us to games, feed us (friends and all), flood the ice rink until all hours of the night, and put up lights. They passed on their knowledge, passed on their positive attitude, and passed on their time.

It was also about friends who knew something you didn’t and would pass it on to you: A new shot, or a new move. It was countless coaches who passed on their skills and new ideas. It was your competitors that would inspire you to be better. It was people passing it on to their kids, their grandkids, their friends, their brothers and their sisters.

That’s what passitonsports.ca is all about.

Pass on your time.
Pass on your skills.
Pass on your ideas.
Pass on your attitude.
Pass on your passion.
